RESEARCH IN ELECTROCHEMISTRY AND CHROMATOGRAPHY
James V. Arena, Ph.D.
Professor of Chemistry
Dr. Arena has a variety of student research opportunities in the areas of electrochemistry and chromatography. Research is focused on the following areas:
- the elucidation of electrochemical processes using electroanalytical
techniques
- applications of chromatographic methods to chemical analysis
Many students from Dr. Arena's research group have had their work presented at scientific meetings or published. Most research projects conducted by students have involved:
- the analysis of phenol in pharmaceuticals by high-performance liquid
chromatography (HPLC)
- the use of voltammetric methods for studying the electrochemistry of
phenol
- the determination of nitrite (NO2 -) and nitrate (NO3 -) by ion
chromatography
